Gibson House and County Historical Collection

Gibson House

The Gibson House is a historical Yolo County property, including mansion, outbuildings, and grounds, that has been owned by Yolo County since 1975. In 1984, the Yolo County Historical Museum Corporation (YCHM) was formed to operate the Museum on behalf of the County. In doing so, the museum corporation was to collect, record, preserve, and exhibit items that best portray the history of Yolo County. After a review of operations, on December 12, 2017, the Yolo County Board of Supervisors directed staff to develop an implementation plan for a new operational model for the Gibson House property and the historical collection.

An outline of the implementation plan was presented at a public community meeting on March 22, 2018 to gather input and feedback. The meeting was attended by 60-90 individuals, with a majority from the City of Woodland. While some attendees at the meeting expressed interest in the implementation plan, many attendees expressed concerns. This feedback was shared with the Gibson House Work Group, which includes representatives from the Yolo County Historical Museum (YCHM) and YoloArts, as well as the Gibson House Ad Hoc Committee, which includes two county board supervisors. The community feedback gathered and the implementation plan will be presented to the Board of Supervisors at their June 26, 2018 public meeting (located in the Board Chambers of the County Administration Building at 625 Court St, Woodland, CA) to determine next steps. This meeting date was chosen in collaboration with YCHM and YoloArts. Additional documentation related to this meeting will be provided as it becomes available.

The following information is meant to provide the public with background materials regarding the decision and some answers to frequently asked questions as this process continues.
